Celebrating the 170th Activation of EAN inflight broadband solution
Milestone highlights the accelerated rollout of Europe's leading airline connectivitiy solution within only nine months of entering commercial service
The European Aviation Network (EAN), Europe’s fastest inflight Wi-Fi service, can now be accessed by passengers on more than 170 aircraft across the continent, highlighting its accelerated rollout within only nine months of entering commercial service.

The award-winning connectivity solution is currently available with three different airlines. Since entering commercial service in March this year, it has been available to over 7.5 million passengers travelling on more than 55,000 flights throughout Europe, covering key destinations such as London, Madrid, Barcelona, Geneva and Rome.
More than half of the service activations have been completed with European low-cost carrier Vueling, which offers passengers three inflight Wi-Fi packages powered by EAN, including ‘Fly and Chat’ for messaging, ‘Fly and Surf’ for browsing and ‘Fly and More’ for streaming.
“With EAN, air travelers are now able to have the ‘like-at-home’ broadband connectivity experience they’ve been waiting for,” stated David Fox, program lead of EAN at Deutsche Telekom. “At the same time, airlines gain a brand differentiator that gives their clients the ability to use their flight times in a more efficient and enjoyable way. We are proud of the leading role we played in getting EAN ‘off the ground’ with the pioneering work we contributed. There were many technical as well as legal challenges, as we installed our over 300 LTE stations to serve all 28 EU member states plus Norway and Switzerland. But with great cooperation, we succeeded – EAN is built by Europe for Europe.”
EAN has been developed by Inmarsat and Deutsche Telekom (DT) in partnership with leading European companies such as Thales, Nokia, Airbus, Cobham and EAD Aerospace. It marks a paradigm shift in the airline passenger experience, with incomparable speeds, uninterrupted coverage and significantly lower latency than any other inflight Wi-Fi network in the continent.
